MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY UPDATE (published 1-17-2022; article #291)

 Introduction

At 4:23 PM, as I begin to write, the about an inch of snow makes a good view, from my home office windows. Today, the low was 27F. The high was 32F. Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I have been enjoying this mild winter day well enough.

Today, we are both off work, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. My January 18, 2021, article contains:

Sadly, I regret that many of the prominent “leaders,” who claim to follow Dr. King, Jr.'s legacy, are not doing so. Moral character matters. Skin color is not relevant. All lives, each created in God's image, matter, equally. Lives must be lived in honor of the Creator. Lives that are not are wasted. Too many folks, of various nationalities and skin colors, are wasting their lives today.

Shall each creation of God not live up to the standard of our Creator? That is the only way that people can STAND together in unity. I have spoken.

I would not change a word today. The problems in this once great nation, and in the world, are moral – nothing else. Folks must choose, freely, to live in honor of our Creator. If not, this once great nation will continue its fall into Socialist Utopian Oblivion. The rest of the world will continue to follow. This article, however, is not about “poly-tics!” Let's move on!

Snow, Such as It Was

If I'm lucky, you may see my first video recording that I made at 1:04 PM today. I'll try to show it, below, if my website software does its job. Here goes!

If you saw my video, you will notice that I started talking with proper pronunciation. About half way, I switched to my best hillbilly voice! I was just having some fun!

If the video does not upload into this article, then the above photograph will! Mrs. Appalachian Irishman had caught me, after I had made the video (that you may not be able to see). I was busted! By the way, behind the large windows, above the bench, on the porch, is where my home office is located.

Voice Mail Set Up!

My second January 9, 2022, article expressed our “cell phone war,” which we won – with the OUTSTANDING customer service by Aaron! Aaron, if you are reading, I wrote the postal letter to you, which I mentioned, on 1/8/2022. It will go out in the mail tomorrow.

Neither Mrs. Appalachian Irishman nor I could get the voicemail set up, on our new Motorola Edge 5G UW (2021) “smart” phones. We had tried. This morning, I reached, by phone, a Verizon Wireless Technical Support gentleman, in New Mexico. During our one and a half hour conversation, the gentleman fixed our voicemail problem, for both phones! Several minutes of our conversation were not about the technical stuff. I shared my “bionic” life (from 3/29/2016 to today, so far), in the context of Russia (1994 to 1999), House Mountain hiking, and my unpublished book (“Light at the End of the Tunnel”) stories. I hope that my words inspired this gentleman, in New Mexico. He seemed to appreciate the details that I shared with him.

Conclusion

Yesterday, I called a very dear friend. Her husband and she are enduring an ongoing series of difficulties. The prayers of Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I continue, daily, to be for their blessing. We have the will but not the power. God has the power. I hope, for our friends' sake, that God has the will to help them. He will. I believe and know. It may take more time that we would prefer.

We must not be snowed over by the trials of life. My redaction of the apostle Paul's words, in his inspired letter to the Philippians (chapter 4, verse 6) are “don't worry about anything; pray about everything!”

Y'all, who know the Good Lord as Savior, keep praying out there. Mention our two friends, as an unspoken prayer request. Thank you!

WINNING THE CELL PHONE WAR! (published 1-9-2022; article #289)

Introduction

This second article will be brief. It was gettin' close to supper time, when I started writing! Y'all hungry? I had been getting hungry!

This article is about the cell phone war that two stubborn Irishmen are winning, as of yesterday and today. Mrs. Appalachian Irishman is “enjoying” the “fun” also – just ask her!

Straight Talk Is Losing

My earlier article today touched on the problems that my ol' Samsung not semi-intelligent phone was having. I love that phone! That phone has taken many great photographs on House Mountain, over the last decade or so.

I despise Straight Talk! Do not use them. It used to be a very good company – not now. My last article has some of the details.

Yesterday, 1/8/2022, Saturday, Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I visited a local Verizon Cellular Sales store – in a brick and mortar location, about a ten minute drive from here. After three hours, my new, young, Irish-American friend and I began to foil Straight Talk's efforts to forestall the transfer of our cell phone service from them to Verizon Wireless.

Why my ol' Samsung phone screen started working, while at the Verizon Wireless location, is beyond anyone's understanding. I still have a screen showing on my 'ol Samsung phone today. The phone still works fine. Straight Talk, however, does NOT work fine!

I have a very detailed record of the fight – that my new Irish-American friend and I are winning! Mrs. Appalachian Irishman endures the literal headache well enough.

Verizon Wireless Is Winning

The image above is from the North Broadway Verizon Cellular Sales store website. I plan to write, on the “Interweb,” outstanding reviews for my new Irish-American friend. I plan to send him, in a day or so, a highly complimentary postal letter, which he may use in any manner he chooses, for his benefit. His customer service was and is outstanding.

This Sunday afternoon, while this young Irish-American was technically off work, he finished the account transfer from Straight Talk to Verizon Wireless. The fight is on, to keep our same two cell phone numbers. I know and have been documenting all the details.

Thank you, Aaron, my young Irish-American friend, for your outstanding service, yesterday and today! We will win completely tomorrow, as Irishmen do. I hope that we either hike House Mountain together, or meet each other on our hikes, one of these days!

Conclusion

I would write more details and accolades, for Aaron and Verizon Wireless, but it's almost supper time. I heard Mrs. Appalachian Irishman working on vittles, in the kitchen. At 6 PM, she said, “okay, Georgie.” Supper was ready. I'll publish both articles, after supper!

By the way, why does McAfee spam emails keep trying to get me to “renew” McAfee, which I don't have? I may need to call their legitimate number that I can find.

On 3/9/2006, I wrote “Give Me a Horse and a Dirt Road!” Yesterday, at the Verizon store, I thought about that article. I re-read it today. I had been having a lot of “fun,” on 3/9/2006.

I understand, all too well, modern technology. I wish that I didn't have to do so. My 'ol Samsung cell phone has retired, effective today. My new Motorola Edge 5G UW (2021) “smart” phone takes over today. The fight, to keep the same phone numbers on both our new phones, will be won tomorrow. I had said, many times, that I would never buy a “semi-intelligent” phone. I had to do so, due to the technology.

Give me a horse and a dirt road, any day! Let's eat supper then publish these articles, y'all! If you are right, do not give up the fight!

ONE WEEK OF WINTER (published 1-9-2022; article #288)

 Introduction

Are y'all here, in east Tennessee, enjoying this rainy Sunday? I didn't think so.

Folks in this country used to ask me if we had summer in Russia, when we were missionaries there (1994 to 1999). My reply had always been, “yes, we have summer in Russia. Sometimes, it falls on a weekend!”

We have winter in east Tennessee. Sometimes, it lasts a few days week!

Snow 1/3/2022 Monday

I used Mrs. Appalachian Irishman's not semi-intelligent cell phone, to take the above image, from our deck, at 8:56 AM, on 1/3/2022, Monday. About an inch or so of snow had fallen during the night. The Sunday rain had turned to snow. Mrs. Appalachian Irishman was still on her two-week Christmas break. I had a day off, for New Year's Day. The low was about 30F. The high was about 41F.

Unfortunately, I spent the day, on the landline phone, fighting with the (now former) provider for our two not semi-intelligent cell phones. I have detailed records of my phone call efforts with our former provider.

Mrs. Appalachian Irishman's cell phone still worked fine. My ol' Samsung cell phone could still make or receive phone calls. I could not see the numbers. My phone could still get texts, which I could not see. The screen had been white as new fallen snow, since 12/30/2021.

As further aggravation, since 12/30/2021, I have not been able to use our home desktop computer to login to our account, on the Straight Talk website – as I have done for about a decade. That (now former) provider had been automatically charging one of our credit cards, on a monthly basis. (We pay off that card in full every month.) Strangely, I could use Mrs. Appalachian Irishman's Chrome laptop computer, to login to the website.

I, however, have started to digress, into my next article that I will publish today. The little snow on 1/3/2022, Monday, was the first taste of winter this season. I wish that I could have been out in it more than I was.

 Snow 1/6/2022 Thursday

On 1/7/2022, Friday, at 7:58 AM, as the sun was coming over the ridge south of us, I used Mrs. Appalachian Irishman's (now old) LG flip cell phone, to take the above snow photograph, from the deck. (I wish that the door post shadow was not in the image.) The snow had started to fall, about 12:20 PM, on 1/6/2022. We had less than an inch of snow.

Mrs. Appalachian Irishman had to start “hitting a lick,” at work, on 1/6/2022. Her two-week Christmas break had ended. Her sister and she commuted to and from their teaching location, about 35 miles or so from here. They worked about a half day, due to the snow.

The snow enabled me to work from home on that Epiphany Thursday and the next day! Otherwise, my usual work pattern remains, since 2/1/2021: work at home Monday through Wednesday but at office Thursday and Friday. It's insanity, of course. The office does not need “coverage,” whatever that is. I can do the exact same job at home. I, however, have digressed. Y'all help me find a new job, if you can! I will retire from my current “govrmint” job, to do something, anything, else – working from home fulltime!

By the way, y'all remember 1/6/2021, don't you? That was a “day that will live in infamy,” as the end of the USA and the beginning of the USSA Socialist Utopia! 1/6/2021 compares to the 12/7/1941 attack on Pearl Harbor and the attacks on 9/11/2001 – according to some socialists. Thursday, 1/6/2022, was also Epiphany, or “old Christmas, or Christmas Day (Eastern Orthodox Church and Russian Orthodox Church). You can do the research, as I know you can! By the way, January 6th of (year not given) was the birthday of the sister of my lifelong friend. I sent her an “Interweb” birthday greeting.

Conclusion

At 5:19 PM, as I typed this sentence, I was listening to Fleetwood Mac “Gypsy” on my new Motorola Edge 5G UW (2021) so-called “smart” phone.

I need to get the next article written. Y'all take care out there! Don't let Corona Myopia Psychosis or USSA Socialist Utopia get you down! “Gypsy,” by Fleetwood Mac, is still a great classic rock song!

APPALACHIAN IRISHMAN BY THE NUMBERS, 12-31-2021, FRIDAY, 11:02 - 03 AM (published 12-31-2021; article #287)

 Introduction

Great! We have another rainy and warm winter day, in spring! The morning fog, at least, lifted. This is NOT Camelot weather. By eight, the morning fog did NOT disappear (Camelot lyrics - Richard Burton).

This morning, Tim Burchett (House Representative, TN, 2nd District) sent his email newsletter, for his 2021 year in review. His website is https://burchett.house.gov/, where one may read several news items and sign up for his monthly newsletter. His website doesn't contain his archived newsletters, as I wish that it did. Tim, as he prefers to be called, is doing his best to slow or reverse the USSA slide into Socialist “Utopia.” I support and join him.

Tim's year in review inspired me to check on my writing year in review. I took a minute (11:02 - 03 AM) to see a moment in time snapshot. I had to do something, aside from hope that the fog would lift, as it did, eventually.

My first Wednesday, December 29, 2021, article mentioned my international viewer numbers, at that moment in time. I can see the numbers, from which nations, at any time. I can't see names or email addresses of readers. I can't see who has signed up, by email, to know when I post an article.

This is my one hundred twenty-first article, and final article, of 2021. (A man has to stop, for the year, sometime!) I published 55 articles in 2020. I see my article numbers, from 2016 to 2019 also. The statistics webpage, for my website, includes better details than the information in the next section.

My Thursday, December 23, 2021, 280th article here was also my first article on SubStack.

12/31/2021, Friday, 11:02 AM: I saw my SubStack website statistics (that requires my login), at that moment in time. The statistics are not as detailed, as the ones for https://www.appalachianirishman.com.

In nine days (12/23/21 to 12/31/21 11:02 AM), I had 30 readers. I have one (known to me), who enrolled for email notifications of my free articles on SubStack. (I can see email addresses on SubStack.)

SubStack is useful, in that it may help get my words out to a wider audience. (I will not publish a link to this article on my SubStack website.) My website statistics protect my email subscribers (whom I can't see) better than my SubStack website statistics (as I see email addresses, of one so far, there).

Conclusion

The first semi-final game of the 2021 College Football Championship (No. 4 Cincinnati vs. No. 1 Alabama) is on now. Watch Alabama win – as I hope NOT.

The second semi-final game (No. 3 Georgia vs. No. 2 Michigan) starts about 7:30 PM this evening. I expect Georgia to lose, so they don't have to lose to Alabama, again, in the 2021 Championship game (Monday, January 10, 2022). Georgia let Alabama beat them, on 12/4/2021, Saturday, in the SEC Championship game. Yes, I am still not over that loss!

Go DAWGS!

Thursday, December 30, 2021

12-30-2000, SATURDAY, BECOMES 12-30-2021, THURSDAY (published 12/30/21; article #286)

 Introduction

I have a second 'cuz, the daughter of one of my first 'cuzs, who lives in Georgia. (Go Dawgs! I'm still mad at my Dawgs, for letting Alabama whip them in the SEC Championship Game.) This 'cuz and her feller are, apparently, having trouble with an invading squirrel. They live in Atlanta, Georgia. That's too far a drive, for me to help them, in a timely manner.

I caught wind of the invading squirrel. I recon that hearing this squirrel saga helped me today. Thanks, second 'cuz!

Y'all click this here YouTube link at “Ray Stevens - "The Mississippi Squirrel Revival" (Music Video)!” I figure that you will get a good laugh, as I did!

12/30/2000, Saturday

On 12/30/2000, Saturday, the graveside service, for Mom (Betty Lou Wood Ferrell, 11/24/1932 - 12/27/2000), was at 1 PM. The weather was cloudy and cold, with a brisk wind from the north/northeast. The high had to have been no more than about 15 decrees. The frozen ground crunched, as we walked on it. (The crunchy ground reminded me of Russia.) Many members of the Fearghail clan, with several good friends, endured the service.

About 2 PM, that day, we (Dad, brothers and their families, other family, Mrs. Appalachian Irishman, and I) were at the homeplace, trying to warm up, eat a bite, and endure the day.

12/30/2021, Thursday

On 12/30/2021, about 2 PM, I was remembering the details of 12/30/2000. I had already hauled trash. Mrs. Appalachian Irishman had already gone to the grocery store and returned. Then, she had headed over to visit her Dad, sister, our niece, the three cats, and the “cat dog.” They live about three miles away from here. She's still there. The spring weather in winter today is a warm contrast to the definite winter of 12/30/2000. To folks in this area, did you enjoy that spring thunder storm last evening? We did.

While I was just “sottin'” here thinkin', as I've said, I had caught wind that my second 'cuz, in Georgia, was having trouble with an invading squirrel! My mind ran straight to the Ray Stevens song, which I've already linked before.

Free Photo by Camille Cox from Pexels

The above photograph may be the perpetrator! He looks like he was ready to jump inside, 'cuz!

Conclusion

Thanks, 'cuz, for helping me get over my state of remembering 12/30/2000, on 12/30/2021! I needed your squirrel saga today!

I think I'll get off here, to call your mother, my first 'cuz, here in a few minutes. What do you know? At 3:57 PM, the sun is out finally! Let's go see the light! Maybe Molly doggy is looking to play with me a while too! Are y'all ready for the Light? I am, and I have been, for a long while!

ALPHA TO OMEGA (published 12/29/2021; article #285)

 Introduction

On 12/23/2021, I thought that I would get me one of them “thar” SubStack writing website accounts, to add to this, my website. My SubStack account is https://appalachianirishman.substack.com/. My articles there link to my articles here. I have far more readers here, than on SubStack. I'm just trying to get the good Word out more! My websites are free – and they will always be free. SubStack wants me to get folks to pay, to read my website there. SubStack, gladly, would take 10%. I will never join SubStack's pyramid scheme!

Phil Robertson's 12/29/21 Article

My Friday, December 24, 2021, article mentioned an article, by my brother in Christ, Phil Robertson. His articles on SubStack are free also.

Earlier today, he published an excellent article, “Delta, Omicron, and My Answer to the Doomsday Prophets” (https://philrobertson.substack.com/p/delta-omicron-and-my-answer-to-the). He writes like he had spoken on his TV show. Click the link, to read his article! It will be worth your time. Drink a cup of coffee, while reading, if you want to do so. I highly recommend that you subscribe to his free articles.

Conclusion

Earlier today, I commented on brother Phil's article, as follows:

Omega is the final letter in the Greek alphabet. Alpha is the first letter. Rev. 22:12-13! "Corona Myopia Psychosis,” as I call it, is ignorance demonstrated, by those who do not know the Alpha and Omega (the Good Lord). Excellent article, brother Phil! I'm working on an article today. I will share your article on my website (https://www.appalachianirishman.com). God's blessings to your family and to you! I love you, in Christ, my brother. We keep standing on the Solid Rock! Ain't no “sinking sand” around us (Mt. 7:24-27)!

Well, I keep my word. This article shares brother Phil's article.

It's dark now, at 5:45 PM, here. I'm getting hungry. Will supper be ready, at 6 PM, as usual, dear? I thought so! Y'all keep turnin' right and goin' straight, out there, ya hear?

MY “LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL” CONTINUES (published 12/29/2021; article #284)

(free image I obtained on 1/2/2021, from ImageGeneration, which has no website)

 Introduction

At 2:12 PM, on this cloudy and rainy spring day, in winter, I might as well write another article or two. I hope that y'all are doing well enough out there – in whatever state or nation you are living.

In the last seven days, as of this moment in time, I see reader totals, which keep increasing, from the following nations: USSA (USA) 251, Belgium 78, Canada 52, Japan 52, France 9, Russia 9, Sweden 8, Singapore 5, United Kingdom 4, Finland 3, Netherlands 3, Bulgaria 2, Germany 2, Estonia 2, Vietnam 2, Australia 1, China 1, Indonesia 1, India 1, Ukraine 1. (I wonder where my Ireland readers are!)

I'll keep writing. Y'all keep reading. It's a good way to drink a cup of coffee, a while, together.

This article is sort of a follow up to my article of Sunday, December 26, 2021.

My “Tunnel” Events (as “Life, Such as It Was”)

12/27/2021, Monday: at 5:15 PM, on 12/27/2000, Mom (Betty Lou Wood Ferrell, 11/24/32 - 12/27/00) “went to see Jesus.” If you search my website by “Mom,” you will find several previous articles that I have published here.

The following is from my unpublished book, “Light at the End of the Tunnel,” under section “Historical Remarks (9/8/2011 – 12/27/2020):”

At 5:15 PM, on Wednesday, December 27, 2000, Mom “went to see Jesus.” She was at home. Family were with her. Exhausted, I had fallen asleep, sitting in a living room chair. We were all tired. At 5:15 PM, I awakened from my light sleep. I couldn't hear Mom breathing, in the labored manner that she had been having to do. She was gone from this world to Home.

On 12/27/2021, I worked from home. In October, I had requested vacation time, for this final week of the year. My employer, being understaffed constantly, had asked me, earlier this month, if I could work (from home, as I insisted), on 12/27/21. Begrudgingly, I had agreed. It was not fun.

I remembered all day long. At 5:15 PM, I stopped what I was doing, and I remembered – as I have been doing these last 21 years.

12/28/2021: on 12/28/1999, Tuesday, Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I were in our little apartment, near the former Knox Center Mall (which is a demolition sight now). Dad had called me, regarding Mom. I drove our 1988 Nissan Stanza, with hazard lights flashing, to the homeplace. (I was speeding. No officer stopped me.) The date marked the beginning.

The following is from my unpublished book, “Light at the End of the Tunnel,” under section “3. Spiritual Scar (written 8/30/2016):”

Wow! I have fond thoughts of who I once was, as a fulltime minister of the Gospel. I had zeal and purpose. Life had meaning. Then, life change drastically, on 12/28/1999, when Mom was admitted to the hospital, only to suffer, recover, suffer again from another evil illness, and finally go to be with Jesus on 12/27/00. Remember, Belinda and I had only returned from Russia on 9/30/1999. We were still in cultural re-entry, having just finished follow up with most supporting churches, while beginning to transition toward finding work. (We had thought that God would use us in a stateside church planting, in East Tennessee.)

On 12/28/2021, my '06 Nissan Frontier (new, 'ol truck) had his passenger side airbag sensor rebooted. My Friday, December 24, 2021 article mentioned the start of it. The big money, corporate, “fix it up” place took from 2 PM to 3:29 PM, to reset a sensor. The cost was, well, “a dollar ain't worth much these days.” I wonder why they washed my truck. He was clean enough. It rained today.

While waiting, I met a fine Christian lady, who may be about 12 years younger than me. Her husband, son, and she live near us. We conversed as brothers and sisters in Christ, for a while. I wish that I had told her about this, my website. Her husband and she are raising their teenage son, to be a godly young man. Is there hope, for this once great nation? We will see.

12/29/2021, today: finally, the rain came – after the too many days of windy and cloudy weather. It is still spring, in winter.

On 12/29/2000, Mom's visitation and funeral were at East Rogersville Baptist Church. Her graveside was on 12/30/2000 – with the high temperature in the teens. I have details in my mind and in my unpublished book, as follows:

Thursday, 12/31/2020, New Year's Eve (a too warm, cloudy day): I hiked House Mountain #175 yesterday. My website has the entry.

12/29/2000 was on Friday. That evening, a large gathering was at East Rogersville Baptist Church, for Mom's visitation and funeral. Mom had been a Sunday School teacher for 31 years. During the funeral, Basil Jones, a godly minister, asked Mom's adult senior women Sunday School Class to stand. Many fine Christian women, who were sitting together, just behind us family, stood in unison. The tribute to Mom was visible.

12/30/2000, Saturday, was Mom's graveside, at 1 PM. The high temperature had to have been 15 degrees Fahrenheit, with a cold wind blowing from the east. The location was and is Howe's Chapel Baptist Church cemetery, near the church building. Dad is there, beside Mom, now.

12/31/2000, Sunday, New Year's Eve: Dad, my youngest brother and his wife, my wife, and I attended East Rogersville Baptist Church, for the morning service. That was twenty years ago, as of this 2020 New Year's Eve date of my writing.

Molly (our 'ol puppy doggy) had her annual physical examination today, at 10 AM. It wasn't raining, as we went. It rained, as we returned. Neither Molly nor I cared! We had fun! Molly will attain age seven, on 10/31/2022 (the date we mark as her birthday). We got Molly, on 11/21/2015 – the anniversary of the passing of Papaw Marion Ferrell (4/13/1880 - 11/21/1970). She was a few months old then – not yet age one.

This morning, earlier, I saw the email reply from 'cuz Ronny. My Sunday, December 26, 2021, article mentioned him. He, graciously, sent me the PDF files, that he had, from https://www.newspapers.com, which have the links to the image that includes my Dad, Earl Ferrell, in my 12/26/2021 article. Newspapers.com wants money, to get their links. The links are The Knoxville Journal 3/8/1958 and The Knoxville News-Sentinel 3/8/1958 – if you want to give them some money.

Before Molly doggy and I went to see her doctor, for her annual physical examination, I had managed to get me a free Knox County Library card! Via that card, I found the free link, for the same 3/8/1958 The Knoxville News-Sentinel image, on Newsbank (Knoxville News-Sentinel, Knoxville, Tennessee, March 8, 1958 page 9 actually. NewsBank: Access World News – Historical and Current. https://infoweb-newsbank-com.ezproxy.knoxlib.org/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&docref=image/v2%3A1429536AE5ADB4DF%40EANX-15CD29F03A36C91B%402436271-15CD26AA44F92AB7%4010)! I had to pay nary a cent! Papaw Ferrell would have been proud of me!

I email replied to my 'cuz Ronny, in the evening. I'm glad that 'cuz Ronny had the 3/8/1958 newspaper image, which included Dad! Dad had never told me. Thanks, again, 'cuz Ronny!

Conclusion

Their is everlasting Light at the end of this temporal tunnel. This afternoon, I left a good friend a voice mail. I hope my friend calls me back. Our conversation will include my comments on this subject. A fine Christian neighbor called me, later this afternoon. His wife and he are doing well enough. He and I spoke, on this topic.

Are y'all ready to join the vast numbers who are already in the everlasting Light, at Home? I am. Y'all get ready, if you are not. Contact me, if you would like to converse with me, on this most important subject.

CHRISTMAS EVE, 12-24-2021, UPDATE (published 12-24-2021)

 Introduction

The time, as I begin to write, is 3:50 PM, on 12/24/2021, Friday, Christmas Eve. I see a fine and godly neighbor mowing the leaves in his yard, as I type this sentence. I'm glad that I'm not doing that now. He has his “bionics,” as I have mine. He is older than me, by a few years.

This is my second article today. I hope that you enjoy it, as you drink your eggnog, on Christmas Eve. Papaw Aby William Wood (9/4/1901 - 3/14/1983) and I used to enjoy drinking a glass of eggnog (not spiced) together, on Christmas Eve – several decades ago. I do not want any eggnog this year.

Brother Phil

I would like to meet Phil Robertson, look him eye-to-eye, as men, and shake his firm handshake. He lives in Louisiana. I live in Tennessee. That would be a long handshake – unless he's up this way sometime in the future.

Do you remember Duck Dynasty? I do, very well. That fine show ran on A&E Television Networks, LLC, from 2012 to 2017 (11 seasons, 129 episodes). Their marketing website is still Duck Commander. Buy some stuff there, if you need it. I bought my six new sweatshirts, on 12/18/2021.

Phil Robertson is the patriarch of his godly family. He has his SubStack website. I found it today. It is free to subscribe. He doesn't want the money, to get his word out. His words are far more important than money. I agree.

Read his 12/22/2021 article. I did. His wisdom is worth reading. His articles are free, as mine are on that SubStack whatever it is. (I'm experimenting on it. SubStack wants one to make money on one's articles. Phil Robertson and I have articles there that are always free.)

Earlier today, I commented on his 12/22/2021 article: “Brother Phil, folks need not only to hear but to listen to your words of wisdom. Thank you for trying to get the Good Word out there! I have been trying, for decades. Since March 2006, I have been doing so on my website (https://www.appalachianirishman.com/). 'Logic - Theology - Deep Stuff' subject line contains my efforts, over the years. We, as Christians, continue to stand on the Solid Rock. We wish many more would join us. Many others and we are trying. Merry Christmas, for the true reason, to your family and you.”

I, then, sent him a SubStack email: “Brother Phil, Greetings, in Christ. I enrolled to get your newsletter updates today. The following is my comment, on your 12/22/21 article 'The One Thing Humanity Needs to Know This Christmas:' Brother Phil, folks need not only to hear but to listen to your words of wisdom. Merry Christmas, for the true reason, to your family and you. May God bless you and yours, as y’all work to advance His Cause.” (I used my known signature, with name, address, phone numbers, and website.)

Conclusion

At 4:45 PM, this typing, I hope that many folks read this article and Phil Williams' article that I referenced. We are both, among many others, trying to restore this once great nation to its moral and godly roots. Help us, if you can!

I wish that Papaw Wood were here. We might drink a glass of eggnog together. Papaw Wood is Home. I'm waiting until it is my turn to join him. In the mean time, I'm trying to help the spiritually in need, to find the Bread of Life that this poor beggar found, on 6/21/1981 – the date of my salvation. I remember that day very well.

Happy Christmas Eve, y'all. Remember and enjoy, for the right reason!

LIFE, “SUCH AS IT WAS,” UPDATE – 12/7/2021 to 12/23/2021 (published 12/24/2021)

 Introduction

Merry Christmas Eve, y'all! The weather is cloudy and too warm this afternoon. I'm just “sottin' here,” writing.

The Context

I hope that you are reflecting deeply on God's Eternal Plan of Redemption. Our all-knowing God always knew his plan, as He is eternal and omniscient, among His other characteristics. God's plan had to unfold, in time.

First, God created the temporal universe – including humans, made in His image. The biblical account is in Genesis. (The faith is based on evidence, which I have and can continue to prove.) God knew that sin would enter his creation.

The Old Testament books of the Bible record the next chapter in God's Eternal Plan of Redemption. The chapter unfolded over centuries and includes many details.

The inspired Gospel of Luke (chapter 2, verses 1-7) records the birth of God, the eternal Word, who became flesh, as the Messiah. Jesus, as God incarnate, lived, taught, performed miracles, was crucified, was resurrected, and ascended to heaven. The biblical record is inspired and verified. (I have and can prove the faith.)

Since that time, we remain in the unfolding final chapter of God's Eternal Plan of Redemption. The inspired New Testament writers recorded the first several decades of this still unfolding final chapter.

Now that I have set the context, I will regale you with life, “such as it was,” from 12/7/2021 to 12/23/2021.

LIFE, “SUCH AS IT WAS”

12/7/2021, Tuesday: I wish that I had taken the time to write an article that day. The day marked the 80th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The unfolding tragedy of World War II continued, until it ended, finally. I now, by writing, honor the men and women who gave their lives, in service to this once great nation. I wish this once great nation could live, in honor of their collective sacrifices.

12/15/2021, Wednesday: Mrs. Appalachian Irishman had her “annual, every-six-month” physical examination, by her PCP. My wife is doing well enough to have an annual physical on an annual, not on an every-every-six-month, basis! Her doctor must like the copay.

12/14,15,16/2021: On 12/14/2021, the daughter of my “adoptive sister” attained age 48. Her phone number is no longer valid. I tried. The next day, I left my “adoptive sister” a voice mail phone message. My “adoptive sister,” in Charleston, Missouri, has not returned my call yet. I tried. On 12/16/2021, the son of my “adoptive sister” attained age 44. His phone number is still valid. I left him a voice mail. He has not replied yet. I tried.

12/20/21, Monday: Usually, I work from home, from Monday through Wednesday and at the office on Thursdays and Fridays – doing the exact same job. It has been the work insanity that I have endured, since 2/1/2021. On 12/20/2021, as my '06 Frontier and I were turning from one road to the next -- almost home, my truck told me that supplemental air bag warning light needed attention. At 5:51 PM, I called the Nissan folks.

On 12/28/21, Tuesday, when I am off work – and on the anniversary of Mom's 12/28/1999 ER trip that started my not yet published book "Light at the End of the Tunnel" – my truck and I have a 2 PM appointment -- to fix another sensor, apparently. It will be part of another "Life, Such as It Is" article, eventually.

12/22/2021, Wednesday: I had my ACTUAL annual (i.e., once a year) physical examination, by my fine primary care doctor, friend, and brother in Christ. I worked from home that day. My appointment was at 8 AM. I “flexed my work time,” to not request leave. His office is a five-minute drive from home. Aside from my “bionic” whatevers, which are much improved, I am still “fit as a rutting buck!” If you need a great primary care doctor, and if you live in the Knoxville, Tennessee area, I highly recommend my doctor, friend, and fellow Christian: Kalpesh D. Parikh, MD! (The link is via patientfusion.com.)

12/23/2021, Thursday: Yesterday, I decided to play with SubStack a while. I started my SubStack website, which is not as good as my Appalachian Irishman website, here, that I own. I'm trying to “expand my influence, readership, and profile,” as some folks call it. Who knows? I may find a way to work-at-home fulltime, as an editor and/or writer, in time. We will see.

Conclusion

By the way, I left a very good friend two voice mails today, about 12:25 PM from our landline and about 1:27 PM from my cell phone. I hope that my very good friend calls me back. We haven't spoken, either by phone or face-to-face, in about a decade.

This life, such as it was, update is placed firmly -- on this 12/24/2021 Christmas Eve Friday -- into the context of God's Eternal Plan of Redemption.

Do you understand? I hope so! Otherwise, contact me. I will help you in any way that I can!
