Good Sister-In-Law and Yesterday's Family Time (published 7-21-2019)

Good Sister-In-Law

Mrs. Appalachian Irishman is the eldest of three sisters (as I have said many times). Two days ago, on Friday, 7/19/2019, her middle sister, my “favorite” sister-in-law, with an apology to my youngest sister-in-law, who is my “favorite” in politics, sent me the following by means of my wife. It was a delayed gift for my birthday on the 17th, four days ago!

The beef jerky and smoked sausages are the way to this Appalachian Irishman’s heart and stomach! I still have a couple of bags of jerky to eat and share with Molly, our “old puppy,” before I can get to these new ones. I will get to them. Molly may even get some. As is said, “Good things come to those who wait.” Advertising note: I do not receive money from product endorsements; however, I can tell that these gifts will be delicious!

Did you ask about the pink ribbon? Well, last month for my “favorite” sister-in-law's birthday, I gave her another set of four wheel covers for her car. I did the same around her birthday last year. If she stopped trying to drive on two tires, in Dukes of Hazzard style, she would not lose wheel covers so often.

Last month, I replaced the two wheel covers that were missing. I had asked Mrs. Appalachian Irishman to wrap a pink ribbon around the box that contained the wheel covers.

Well, my “favorite” sister-in-law gave me back the same pink ribbon. My beef jerky and smoked sausage gifts were wrapped in that pink ribbon. Now, that was just funny!

Yesterday's Family Time

Yesterday, Saturday, 7/20/2019, was the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. I was there, hiding in the lunar module, believe it or not!

My wife's birthday has always fallen on the day after mine. Why does that never change? Three days ago, her birthday was a workday for me. She was on her summer vacation from teaching. Yesterday, as a part of her birthday gift, she chose the Fountain City Diner for a 1 PM dinner, not lunch, since I am not a Yankee or a city slicker. To join us were, in arrival order, my next-to-youngest brother, my “favorite” sister-in-law, and our niece (the daughter of my wife's sister). Now that was some fine eatin’ and family conversation!

Unfortunately, the diner is closing due to a greedy landlord’s exorbitant rent increase. That’s the way for a landlord to kill a great small business. I hope the landlord sleeps well at night, but not really. The economy is not growing at the 56% rate of the rent increase. That’s enough of that sidetrack.

I am still confused. At the diner, the three females looked over the pies on display. They talked about pies, but they didn’t buy any! What? Can you explain why not to me?

Thank you, “favorite” sister-in-law! I will! I know who the “blogger unknown” is! Ha!
