11-7-2021: USSA “GOVRMINT” TIME ENDS! (published 11-7-2021)

Introduction

Why am I sitting here writing on a nice day for hiking? Writing articles is taking precedence over hiking today. Further, I am also “fixin'” to call a good friend and my youngest brother. My “bionic” joints are doing well enough to hike.

As an aside, USSA is my acronym for “Ununited Socialist States of America.” That's what this once-great nation has become.

2021 Daylight Saving Time USA Survey: Who Likes It? Who Hates It?

The title of this section is what I used to search online earlier today. The search resulted in too many articles. I decided to select the following three.

You can figure out who YouGovAmerica is, as I did. Those folks have one somewhat interesting article: “Daylight Saving Time: Americans want to stay permanently ‘sprung forward’ and not ‘fall back.’” YouGov, by Kathy Frankovic, 11/4/2021. (I didn't correct the capitalization errors.) The article states, “Nearly twice as many Americans who prefer not changing their clocks would prefer that Daylight Saving time – not Standard Time – be the one that is kept.” Of course, the majority is wrong! Standard Time should be the yearlong preference. That's my opinion. Feel free to make it yours.

A day later, however, a different source indicated that yearlong Standard Time is the majority preference. See “Culture and Society: Dislike for changing the clocks persists.” The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 11/5/2021. (Again, I didn't correct the capitalization errors.) This entry states, “Forty-three percent want to stay on standard time year-round, while 32% prefer to see the clocks remain on daylight saving time.” The remaining 25% enjoy springing forward and falling back every year.

Finally, Save Standard Time has interesting information. They have opinion poll links that are from 2014 to 2019. Save Standard Time is a part of the International Alliance for Natural Time. Well, I'm glad that those of us who have different opinions about “govrmint” time have an international alliance!

Conclusion

Well, at least “govrmint” time has ended once again. I had to reset a “lucky” thirteen different timepieces. There are fourteen in all, but Mrs. Appalachian Irishman reset the time on her '08 Honda Civic. Thanks for bailing me out of my “lucky” thirteen, dear!

Saturday, 11-6-2021: Dad Got More of the Same Junk Mail, and I Got Junk Mail! (published 11-7-2021)

Introduction

Don't you enjoy getting junk mail for a deceased family member? I still wonder what my deceased father would say!

Yesterday, Saturday, 11/6/2021, more junk mail arrived. Dad got more of the same junk mail. Furthermore, I received junk mail too!

The 10/17/2021 article poked fun at the junk mail that came for my father. Those folks will not stop! The same folks sent my father more junk mail. It arrived yesterday.

 

This time, I plan to call these folks, probably tomorrow, to educate them. If my call doesn't set them straight, I plan to write and send them a postal letter. If so, I may let you know how I stopped these junk mail folks. They need to be educated.

I wonder if my father would like their “free gym membership” at his heavenly home. He doesn't need their hearing aids, eyeglasses, or rides to medical appointments.

My Junk Mail

Not to be outdone, I also received junk mail yesterday. Hey, Dad! I'm trying to keep up with you!

I wonder if the folks at Elmcroft of Halls will enjoy my phone call to them. I may call them tomorrow or in a few days. I plan to ask the person who answers if he or she (as there are only two genders) would like to try to keep up with me on a hike up “My Mountain” (House Mountain). I may write a follow-up article if I decide to do so.

Conclusion

Yes, I know. The weather was good enough for a House Mountain hike yesterday, today, or on both days. I'll get around to my 179th hike there.

I had to get this trifecta of articles written and published today. This is the first one. My desire to write overcame my desire to hike, with an apology to my desire to hike. Yes, I apologize to myself.

Saturday, 10/30/2021, Humor: Dothan, Alabama, or Dothan, Palestine? (published 10/30/2021; updated 10/31/2021)

Introduction

On this rainy Saturday, I am listening online and watching on television the Georgia Bulldogs whip up on the Florida Gators! Prophetic certitude predicts a win.

The Tennessee Vols, or “Vowels,” as I call them, have an open date today. They should win.

Dothan, Alabama

The Big Show with John Boy and Billy has episodes that involve Dothan, Alabama. Ricky B. Sharpe is usually in the mix. For decades, I have assumed incorrectly that Dothan, Alabama, was an imaginary town, just like Ricky B. Sharpe is an imaginary person on the Play House. What happens when you assume? Insert your favorite emoji here. I don't use them. I parsed out the meaning of emoji in the 5/9/2021 Mother's Day article.

Dothan, Alabama, is a real town! It is called the Peanut Capital of Alabama. It hosts the annual autumn National Peanut Festival. Reference: Alabama Tourism Department, Sweet Home Alabama, Dothan.

Dothan, Alabama's name was inspired by the Bible verse in Genesis 37:17. The context is when Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery. Joseph asked a man if he had seen his brothers. The man replied, “I heard them say, ‘Let’s go to Dothan.’” (NIV) Source: Visit Dothan, A City with a Rich History.

Why did John Boy and Billy decide to use that town for their radio program skits? Maybe they will tell me! I plan to email The Big Show (mailbag2@thebigshow.com) with a reference to this article. If they reply, I will let you know!

Dothan, Palestine

In the Bible, 2 Kings 6:13-19 is the only other reference to Dothan. The prophet Elisha was in Dothan. The context was the nation of Israel's conflict with the Arameans. The Arameans, Genesis 10:22, descended from Aram, a grandson of Noah and a son of Noah's firstborn son, Shem.

The biblical Dothan is in modern Palestine.¹ I learned the Hebrew meaning of “Dothan” and other details by searching online this morning. My brain needed some relevant exercise. Irrelevant workweek memories needed to be subjugated to the backwaters.

I would like to meet and converse with the man who wrote “Joseph was sold at Dothan,” Ferrell's Travel Blog, by Ferrell Jenkins, 6/29/2015. I encourage you to read his well-written article. You could drink a few cups of coffee and read for a while on his website. I did this morning. His first name is my last name.

Conclusion

This morning, my inquisitive mind wondered about Dothan, Alabama, as used on The Big Show. Well, I learned a few facts that I had not known before. I hope, by reading this little article, that you learned with me.

Georgia is up over Florida 24 to 0 as of this 5:51 PM note. Supper is almost ready. I'm off here to watch the rest of the game and to eat supper. Wait! At 5:58 PM, the score is Georgia 27, Florida 0!

Introduction

This is the final article in today's Sunday afternoon trifecta. At about 7 AM yesterday, I saw the weekly email (sent at 2:11 AM on Saturday, 10/23/2021) for the Friday, 10/22/2021, issue of The Blackburn Report. As an aside, I wonder who stayed up until after two o'clock in the morning to send out that email.

Conservative folks from around here are proud to call Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn a native daughter. She is much better than the senators we have had before (e.g., Lamar Alexander and Al Gore).

10/24/2021 update: I had to stop last evening. Yesterday evening after supper, I had to get Molly (our “old puppy”) inside with us, relax, and watch television. Yes, Alabama handed Tennessee a double-stomp loss. I also watched repeats of Gunsmoke and Star Trek. I am finishing this entry today.

The Ununited Socialist States of America (USSA) should stop helping the Chinese manufacture more virus monsters in their laboratories!

Parents and/or grandparents must keep those young'uns off the Internet unless supervised! Young'uns should be studying, doing chores, or playing outside as I did in childhood!

Blackburn, Cotton, Colleagues Fight For Free Speech On College Campuses (10/20/2021 article). When did this once-great nation become so socialistic that citizens have to fight for free speech? I stand, speak, and write without backing down. God gave me the right to free speech, not this once-great country.

Blackburn, Sullivan, Colleagues to President Biden: Stop the Unconstitutional Vaccine Mandates (10/21/2021 article). Folks who, in grave moral error, affirm the right to murder unborn babies in their mothers' wombs argue that a woman has the right to her body. In so reasoning, they exclude the right that the unborn child has to his or her body. A pregnant woman, however, has the right and obligation to care for her body to nurture the unborn child she carries.

With the thought in mind that I have the right and obligation to care for my own body, neither the USSA nor President Biden will force a vaccine mandate on me that violates my God-given rights. I am still a free man in a once-free-and-great nation. In this sense, I have the right to choose. Employees whose employers demand either taking the new cold virus vaccine or being terminated need to stand! All employers (government included) need to be sued if they terminate employees who decide, as free people in a once-free-and-great nation, not to be vaccinated against the new cold virus. I never thought that I would see such a sad situation in this deteriorating nation.

The following were not in the 10/22/2021 The Blackburn Report. They, however, are found in the News section.

Blackburn, Cruz, Lee, Raise Concerns Over Conflict Of Interest With AG Garland’s Son-In-Law Running Organization Promoting Critical Race Theory (10/23/2021 article). The following is a direct quote from the article:

U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), and Mike Lee (R-Utah), all members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, sent a letter to Attorney General (AG) Merrick Garland raising serious concerns and questions over a possible conflict of interest between AG Garland, whose son-in-law reportedly runs an organization that works with schools to promote critical race theory, and Garland’s recent memorandum directing the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to pursue parents who oppose critical race theory.

In the quote, “possible conflict of interest” should be “definite conflict of interest”! Critical race theory (CRT) is one of several known means by which the “Socialist Utopian” propagandists are “transforming America” into the USSA, a once-free-and-great nation. They are trying to finish the transformation. The FBI has no right to go after parents who stand against the propaganda of the so-called critical race theory.

ICYMI: Blackburn Exposes Border Crisis On Fox Business With Maria Bartiromo (10/12/2021 article). A few folks are trying to stick their fingers into the dike to stop the overwhelming flood of illegal aliens who continue to invade this once-great nation. I wish them well. I support their efforts. Nothing will change until a constitutional conservative is elected to be the next president and the House and Senate are under conservative control.

Conclusion

I cannot keep up with the warp-speed digression of this once-free-and-great nation into “Socialist Utopian Oblivion.” (I need to learn to speak Mandarin.) News segments about this digression are popping up so quickly that I cannot keep up with them. I have reached the point of not caring. I, however, will continue to stand on the Solid Rock as a free man in a once-free-and-great nation.

I came across a couple of interesting details to add in conclusion. First, the Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, has been on “paternity leave” since his “husband” and he adopted two newborn children. Two men cannot “marry.” One man cannot impregnate another man to have a child together. Two unmarried men who claim to be married should not be able to adopt children. I stand for biblical-based and conservative values. I will not change. The Solid Rock does not move or yield.

Second, the supply chain chaos is ongoing. (The news is everywhere. I will not cite sources here.) If this once-great nation did not need to import so many goods from other nations, then the supply chain would not be much of a problem.

Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I enjoyed picking up copies of The Moscow Times when we lived in Moscow, Russia (10/1/1994 to 9/30/1999). The Moscow Times had a 10/22/2021 article about Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent remarks. See Putin Rails Against ‘Monstrous’ West in Valdai Speech. (It is in English translation.) Putin was a KGB agent in the former Soviet Union. He should not be trusted without evidence to support what he says. I suggest, however, that you read what he said. Putin affirmed several common sense and moral values in a pithy manner. His other remarks were diatribe and propaganda. I found some of Putin's comments about the USSA (the former USA) to be rather humorous and correct.

As an aside, did you know that today is United Nations Day? Are you celebrating? I didn't think so. I happened to glance at my home office desk calendar and noticed.

This final article in my trifecta of articles today is done! I almost hiked House Mountain this afternoon, but I had to get these articles published. Further, I had to replace for the second time the passenger-side sun visor in our 2008 Honda Civic. My “favorite” sister-in-law uses the mirror on the sun visor to put on her makeup when it's my wife's turn to drive. (They commute to and from work together.) I need to get outside and enjoy this too warm but sunny weather. See you all later! I'm off of here for now!

My Friend Wrote the Users Manual for the ARPANET; Al Gore Did Not Create the Internet (published 10/24/2021)

Introduction

This is the second article in today's trifecta. My friend, JC, had never mentioned to me what follows until I read his email.

Ten years before folks had wide use of the Internet, my friend wrote over several months the user manual for the ARPANET. It was during his early years in the U.S. Air Force. He emailed about it Friday evening. I saw and read his email yesterday morning. I enjoyed doing some research early that morning while drinking coffee and awaiting breakfast. Mrs. Appalachian Irishman makes a country breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays. Thanks, dear!

ARPANET: The Ancestor to the Internet

ARPANET is the acronym for Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. The project started in the late 1960s.

You are welcome to click the link to the U.S. Department of Defense: Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) to learn what I did. I had never before heard of the ARPANET!

Numerous websites include factual details. The Internet Hall of Fame has a good article, A Brief History of the Internet (by Barry M. Leiner, Vinton G. Cerf, David D. Clark, Robert E. Kahn, Leonard Kleinrock, Daniel C. Lynch, Jon Postel, Larry G. Roberts, and Stephen Wolff), published in 1997.

My good friend, JC, in his early days in the U.S. Air Force, wrote the user manual for the ARPANET! My friend is one of many who pioneered the eventual creation of the Internet! That is impressive!

My good friend will appreciate that I place his verified (by his credible word) contribution to the eventual creation of the Internet into the context of my next section. I must engage in “poly-ticks” for a while!

Al Gore Did Not Take “the Initiative in Creating the Internet.”

On 3/8/1999, when my wife and I were still living in Russia, Al Gore, the former senator from Tennessee and former vice president, stated to CNN's Wolf Blitzer, “During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet.” (Sources: the link here and below to The Washington Post.)

To his credit, however, Al Gore was one of 33 total 2012 Internet Hall of Fame inductees. He was one of the nine who were inducted as Global Connectors. When someone asks you if you know about the ARPANET, you can now answer, “Yes.” I can too. In fact, just for fun, go around for the next few days asking folks if they know about the ARPANET! I may do so.

10/16/2021 CRACKER BARREL “BRUNCH” REVIEW (published 10/24/2021)

Introduction

The 10/17/2021 article mentioned that I would write about the “brunch” that Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I had with a good friend (JC) the day before at a nearby Cracker Barrel restaurant.

Yesterday, the Georgia Bulldogs had an open date, so I started writing about our “brunch” from two Saturdays ago. I am finishing and publishing this article today. By the way, this is the first of my trifecta of articles on this Sunday afternoon.

Saturday, 10/16/2021, Brunch Conversation

The last time that my good friend, my wife, and I visited in person was last year on Monday, 1/20/2020, which was also Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Then, the “global pandemic” (a redundancy that I have heard newscasters say on television) was in its infancy. “Corony Myopia Psychosis,” as I call it, had not yet started.

Two Saturdays ago, on 10/16/2021, my friend was already waiting inside the restaurant. He arrived earlier. My wife and I arrived a minute early at 9:59 AM.

I wore my black and red Georgia football tee-shirt. (I also had it on at the Rogersville Heritage Days. See the 10/10/2021 article.) Mrs. Appalachian Irishman wore a pink Tennessee Vols (or “Vowels,” as I call them) tee-shirt! I know the orange, white, and black colors of the TN “Vowels!” Pink is not their color. We were a husband and wife divided by SEC college football.

Before entering, I enjoyed a humorous conversation with a couple who were decked out in their TN “Vowel” attire. Once inside, having met JC, and before we were seated, another man and I engaged in “Vowel Nation” versus “Dawg Nation” humor.

I'm sorry, “Vowel” athletic supporters. I don't have that many more decades left to wait in hope that the “Vowels” will become a good college football team again. Saturdays are more enjoyable as a Georgia Bulldog follower! (I do not use “fan.” “Fan” is short for fanatic. A fanatic is someone who is extremely or overly enthusiastic about an interest or activity.) I just like “them” Dawgs! I would rather see the “Vowels” win than lose, unless they are playing Georgia.

The art of entertaining, pithy, humorous, serious, and deep conversation is almost lost, except for those who retain or learn the ability. Those who are intelligent, well-informed, well-educated, and have the gift of personality understand what I mean. Of course, the dumbing down of America has been going on for a few decades. My Irish gift of gab (or blarney) has always enjoyed a good conversation. Well, it has since I overcame my shyness during my junior year in high school.

The weather outside was warm, cloudy, and rainy. The conversational weather inside was warm and bright. Our “brunch” lasted around two hours. Customers began arriving for dinner (or lunch, as Yankees call it).

We may have dropped a fork or two on a plate, but we never dropped the conversation! The three of us conversed on a variety of topics with intellectual humor and sarcasm. Topics included “poly-ticks” (i.e., many political bloodsuckers), the transition of the United States of America (USA) into the Ununited Socialist States of America (USSA) on 1/6/2021, education in socialist schools (Mrs. Appalachian's topic of vivid vocality), economics, history, meteorology, sports, theology, and our “lives, such as they are.”

We hope that another year or so doesn't go by until the three of us get together again in person. My friend sends out email commentaries about various topics to several people, including me. We exchange direct emails at times. We do keep in touch.

The three of us had to have an early “brunch” on Saturday, 10/16/2021. I wanted to get back home to watch the Georgia Bulldogs (#1 in the nation) beat the Kentucky “Wild Kitties” (#11 in the nation). That game was fun to see!

Later that evening, I also watched part of the TN “Vowel” game against Ole Miss. I regret how TN “Vowel” friends felt. I hoped in passing interest that the “Vowels” would win. Some “fans” tarnished the reputation of the University of Tennessee by tossing various items onto the field near the end of the game. I had been watching Star Trek, the original series, at the time, so I missed that childish drama.

The Georgia Bulldogs had an open date yesterday, Saturday, 10/23/2021. Yesterday evening, I was not looking forward to finding out by how many points the Alabama “Elephants” stomped the TN “Vowels.” I planned to watch some of the game.

The final score last evening was TN “Vowels” 24, Alabama “Elephants” 52. I updated my 2021 TN “Vowels” Football Schedule document. Football is played in four quarters, not one, unfortunately for the TN “Vowels.” The “Vowels” won the first quarter, 14 to 7. The “Vowels” lost by an exact double stomp. (I use the definition of “stomp” that my friend, JC, created. A stomp is a loss by 14 points.) A double-stomp is a loss by 28 points, such as TN 24, AL 52.

Conclusion

Yesterday, Saturday, 10/23/2021, I wondered when Mrs. Appalachian Irishman would get home. It was 4:42 PM when I typed this sentence. Oh, wait! I heard the car!

Today, I will move on to the second article of my trifecta. Y'all take it easy out there!

Saturday, 10/16/2021: USPS Email: Dad Is Getting Junk Mail Here Today! (published 10/17/2021)

Introduction

Dad (Earl H. Ferrell, 9/17/1927-1/25/2008) enjoyed a good laugh. Right now, my father is laughing and having more fun and joy than I can imagine.

At least I will have some joy and humor in writing this article! I would rather be with my father. I will get there in time.

10/16/2021: Dad Is Getting Junk Mail Here Today!

Yesterday, Saturday, 10/16/2021, at about 7:45 AM, I was “sottin'” (as Dad would say) at my home office personal computer. The weather was dark and cloudy, and it was pouring rain. I got out of bed around 6:30 AM. After awakening and still in bed, I did my usual “bionic” stretches. A “bionic man” has to take time to stretch out his “bionics” before planting both feet on the floor!

Mrs. Appalachian Irishman had awakened at about 5 AM as usual. She was watching whatever she watches on television that early on a Saturday. I did my usual early morning routine. I ate an apple and drank a couple of cups of black coffee. Around 7:45 AM, I was getting ready to read “The Blackburn Report,” Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn's weekly email newsletter. She's doing her best to slow down the Ununited Socialist States of America's (USSA's) slide into “Socialist Utopian” oblivion. I wish her well in her efforts. I'll vote for her again, early and often, if I can.

The Postal Service will email you with images of postal mail that you will be getting that day. It is a free service. All you have to do is sign up for free. I did so several months ago.

I noticed that “USPS Informed Delivery” emailed me at 7:23 AM my 10/16/2021 “Daily Digest.” Dad was going to get junk mail here today, once the mail arrives, usually around 12 to 1 PM. I thought that it would make a funny Appalachian Irishman article!

I had time before cleaning up for the day. I decided to research the “fine folks” that had sent my deceased father a postal letter. I learned that the Barrington Media Group had wasted the postage cost. I found information about them, as follows:

10/16/2021: Dad Did Get Junk Mail Here Today!

Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I endured the cloudy and rainy weather, along with the bad asphalt on I-640. We faced speeders and the idiot, who pulled out from a driveway in his recreational vehicle (mobile home on wheels) directly in front of us.

At 9:59 AM, we arrived for our 10 AM Cracker Barrel “brunch” with a good friend of mine (JC). I will write another article about that “brunch.”

Once we returned home at about 12:30 PM, the weather had cleared out. I went to the mailbox to find the following:

The above images are the front and back of the spam postal mail that my father (passed away on 1/25/2008) received at our address on 10/16/2021. Dad never needed to live with us. He could have if he had needed to do so. He kept the homeplace going until his final day on this speck of dust that we call Earth.

The spam postal mailer folks were not open today, Sunday, 10/17/2021. I may call 800-692-1708 tomorrow (from 8 AM to 8 PM EST) just to “devil” them for a little, as Dad would have done if he were still here. I may let you know what happens. It should be funny!

Conclusion

Well, I need to get off here for now. I need to call my cuz Becky again. Her great-grandfather and my great-grandfather were brothers. We graduated from high school together. I haven't seen her in the flesh since high school. She and I have both been a few places on the globe, but never in the same place at the same time. I didn't see her at the Rogersville Heritage Days last Sunday. I called her about an hour ago, when she was busy. She asked me to call her back in about an hour.

Watch out, cuz! I'm “fixin' ta” call you again!

Introduction

The truth is out there. The “Interweb” abounds with this particular truth, mentioned below! Ignore all the “Socialist Utopian” fake news! Today, Wednesday, is the day to not care about anything but “space, the final frontier!”

Boldly go where no one (or man, as it was originally) has gone before! Today, I place my work at home life into that context. William Shatner -- also known as James T. Kirk, on Star Trek (3 seasons, 79 episodes, 1966-1969, NBC, set in 2266-2269) -- got into space finally – even if for only 11 minutes, at age 90!

Star Trekking at Age 90

Star Trek, the original series, comes on one of our thousands of TV channels (with not much to watch), on Saturdays, at 10 PM. I stay up the extra hour to watch. (Star Trek used to come on at 9 PM, on Saturdays, until the channel changed it to 10 PM, a couple of years or so ago.)

Y'all can “Gaggle” search by “William Shatner 10/13/2021,” as I did. You will find a plethora of information. For this article, I selected: “William Shatner shares profound words after successful Blue Origin flight: 'I hope I never recover from this'” (on Fox News, by Tyler McCarthy, 10/13/2021). Conclusion

I enjoy the fantasy of Star Trek, the original series. I even like Star Trek the Next Generation. I like Star Trek Deep Space Nine quite a lot. All the Star Trek movies that included the original Star Trek cast were great! The Next Generation cast movies were good enough. These new Star Trek TV episodes and movies, with a new and young cast, are boring. Eugene (Gene) Wesley Roddenberry (8/19/1921 – 10/24/1991) is rolling over in his grave, due to the new and young cast, of the new Star Trek TV shows and movies. (Well, that's my opinion. Feel free to make it your own!)

This was my brief sidetrack into fantasy. Tomorrow, my “bionic” body gets to drive my new, ol' truck to and from the “Hadean Realm” office, for the next two days – to do the same work that I did Monday to today, at home.

Beam me up, Scotty! I'm ready to move on Home!

ROGERSVILLE HERITAGE DAYS, SUNDAY, 10/10/2021

Introduction

The Rogersville Heritage Days Festival started in 1979 – as well as I can remember (when I was age 19). 2021 marked the 42nd Heritage Days (at my age 61). Aside from my “bionic” body, I still feel about the same as I did, at age 19.

Saturday, 10/14/2017, had been the last time that Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I walked Main Street on Heritage Days weekend. (My “bionic” right foot didn't take the pounding very well, but it took it.) It was also the birthday (age 8) of the youngest daughter of my youngest brother and his wife. We had a good day. I didn't take any photographs.

We visited my youngest brother and his family on 10/14/2018, Sunday. We didn't walk Main Street, for Heritage Days. We did eat at the (used to be) Sagebrush. It was rainy and cloudy all day. On 10/12/2019, Saturday, we visited my youngest brother and family. It was a cloudy day. We all ate at the Green Tomato Grill, but we didn't walk Main Street, for Heritage Days. Heritage Days weekend 2020 (10/9 - 11) was rainy. The “Corony Myopia Psychosis” was in full swing. It was raining “Corony” that day.

Heritage Days 10/10/2021

I told y'all yesterday that we might be at Heritage Days today! We were. We at dinner (lunch, as the Yankees call it), at the place where the Pizza Hut used to be, with my youngest brother and his family. We visited the homeplace. Then, Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I, bravely, walked Main Street, on Heritage Days!

The center of Main Street is at the traffic light (green, at the time). The court house is to the right (south). The view is looking east. Heritage Days 2021 drew a good crowd this year.

Mrs. Appalachian Irishman, bravely, took the above photograph of me. The court house is behind me. How did I get that gray-headed? It's better to turn gray than to turn loose! Go Georgia Bulldogs! I told various “Farcebook” friends, who are friends in real life also, to look for me, wearing that T-shirt – if they were there at the time. We didn't meet anyone, whom we knew. I did meet a man, about my age, who works for WRGS – Rogersville's AM/FM radio station. We talked a bit, as we walked. He's a good guy.

Yes, the unknown woman behind me wore a mask. We saw one other wearing a mask. We were glad to see folks living as free people – in a once free and great nation. Appalachian heritage, stubborn and strong-willed as it is, will endure and overcome the “Socialist Utopian” agenda, in the USSA (or USA, until 1/6/2021). (I've written about it.)

Conclusion

Well, y'all keep living as free people, as our God-given right, in the USSA! Don't spend too much of that Monopoly money. A dollar ain't worth much these days. Heck, a $20 bill ain't worth much either. A $100 bill might buy you $10 worth of stuff – as $10 did 60 or so years ago. (I've written about it.) Okay, I'll get off my “soap box!”

As I wind down, in the evening, Molly doggy had been indoors with us. (She's resting for the night in her basement condominium now.) Gunsmoke had been on TV. (I found an old western afterward.) Work-a-day starts tomorrow. Y'all keep turnin' right and goin' straight out there! Ya hear? Well, it's dark now. I wonder when the light will return to this dark nation. We will see – maybe.

PECAN LOG SATURDAY, 10/9/2021

 Introduction

At 5:00 PM on the dot, I have started writing on this once blank canvas. My Georgia Bulldogs (#2 in nation) are taking care of the Auburn “Kitty Cats” (#18 in nation). I'm listening to (Interweb radio) and watching (TV) the game, as I write. (I can multi-task.) I'm glad that the Tennessee “Vowels” (unranked) beat the South Carolina “Game Chickens” (unranked) earlier today.

Pecan Log Saturday

The dense fog and clouds turned into a sunny afternoon. I had another “best clip” at Tony's Best Clips, (865) 936-4146. I arrived exactly at 11 AM, for my appointment. Tony still takes customers by appointment only.

Afterward, my '06 Frontier got another hand washing at Synergy Auto Wash (Halls), (865) 922-7438. The exterior wash and tire detailing used to cost $13. 9/11/2021 was the last $13 truck wash. The cost is now $18. The guy, whom I know, said that the cost of doing business had gone up, so their prices had to increase. USSA Monopoly money doesn't buy what USA money used to buy.

The final errand was a stop at the Tractor Supply, for “doggys.” The shelf stock was not stocked well – as usual, in the “new normal.” I bought the last two beef “red lid doggys” they had. (They cost too much, as most stuff does these days, but Molly “doggy” likes them!) I told the checkout lady. Tractor Supply doesn't care that I would have bought more – if they could or would stock their shelves.

I decided to treat myself to a rare purchase of candy. (I eat candy rarely.) I bought the Pecan Roll (in the above photograph). It cost $1.99 in USSA Monopoly money. At least the Tractor Supply had pecan rolls this time. I usually see an empty box only. That pecan roll should have cost about 50 cents. Well, it did, back in the 1960's or 1970's, when a dollar was worth something. By the way, that pecan roll was made by the Crown Candy Corporation, in Macon, GEORGIA. Warning: their website, Crown Candy, is not secure. Don't click the link, unless you have great virus protection.

Poly-tics Aside

Are y'all enjoying the USSA slide into “Socialist Utopia?” I didn't think so. No one, with any sense, is. I won't even mention the army of illegal aliens that continues to invade the USSA southern border, the Monopoly money spending spree, “Corony” Myopia Psychosis, or any of the other fast-paced “Socialist Utopian” nightmares.

My computer (from Data Tech 11) has Microsoft Start (msn.com) on it. It came that way. I don't care for it. Data Tech 11 had no choice but to install it. “Microcrap” demanded it.

Early this morning, I clicked Microsoft Start (msn.com). I browsed a while. Y'all might want to browse a while also. Antarctica's last 6 months were the coldest on record - CNN (10/9/2021 article). I thought we were in “global warming.” No, wait a moment! It's “global climate change” now. Blockbuster snowstorm set to bury parts of Rockies | AccuWeather (10/9/2021 updated article). Again, it must be “global climate change. Kamala Harris skips US-Mexico border-security meeting, goes to New Jersey instead | Fox News (10/9/2021 article). There is no “crisis” at the USSA southern border. The USSA needs even more illegal aliens, for their “vote early and often” stock. Scientists develop artificial lightning that breaks up methane (msn.com) (10/8/2021 article). I have enough farmer or farm-raised friends, who must be laughing out loud – if they clicked that one! Science will control cow manure! Well, I think that's propagandized manure.

Conclusion

The annual Rogersville Heritage Days is this weekend. It's been a while, since Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I have been up there for it. I have memories of previous years. I called my youngest brother earlier today. Well, Mrs. Appalachian Irishman and I may have a heritage days get together tomorrow, in the context of Rogersville Heritage Days. We will see. If we get together, I'll write about it. Who knows? The world could come to an end before tomorrow.

Well, my Georgia Bulldogs look like they may beat the Auburn “Kitty Cats.” I'm off of here, for supper and to watch football!
